40th Anniversary Celebration of WFU in Salamanca, Spain

In July 2018, Wake Forest University proudly celebrated the 40th anniversary of our study abroad program in Salamanca, Spain where generations of students have experienced academic growth, cultural immersion and lifelong connections. 

The reunion weekend offered a variety of opportunities to reconnect with alumni, faculty and friends and was held in conjunction with the 800th anniversary of the University of Salamanca. Alumni and guests gathered in Salamanca’s historic Plaza Mayor for a welcome reception, returned to the Wake Forest Center to share memories, view photos and listen to music from past semesters. Guests explored the city’s remarkable history through tours of the University of Salamanca, historic monuments, and the Clerecía towers. The reunion also included lectures, alumni roundtable discussions and a special reception that honored the long standing relationship between Wake Forest University and the University of Salamanca.

The celebration concluded with a Gala dinner featuring remarks from Wake Forest leadership on the University’s global vision, the academic impact of the Salamanca program and the program’s remarkable 40 year legacy. The weekend served as a meaningful celebration of friendships, experiences, and enduring connections that define Wake Forest’s study abroad experience in Salamanca. 

We look forward to celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Salamanca program in 2029.
